Set in the shadow of Ben Nevis, near Fort William, contestants of the River Nevis Race are obliged to navigate the deepest and most dangerous parts of one of Scotland’s most challenging rivers while overcoming such comfortingly named water obstacles as ‘dead dog . The Glen Nevis River Race is an extreme challenge involving participants navigating through the icy waters of a two-mile stretch of the River Nevis on an air-bed (Lilo). The intrepid adventurers begin by launching themselves off a small ledge on a rock face, plunging into the freezing waters of the River Nevis .

The Lower Falls is the start point of the annual Glen Nevis River Race - when competitors jump into the falls with floatation and wetsuits to navigate the river to a finishing point down stream - this is a good spectator sport. Check out the Events section to find out the date of the next race.   During the summer months, one of the most exciting activities is the annual Glen Nevis River Race, in which competitors race for three kilometres along the river, but not in a coat. Instead, each competitor uses a lilo, a plastic bed filled with air normally used for camping or floating in the sea, or another kind of beach toy to race along the river. Our award-winning touring caravan and camping park near Fort William is set in a magnificent location in Glen Nevis, with stunning views to Ben Nevis and the surrounding mountains. Our Campsite is currently closed for the off-season and will be re-opening on the 13th of March Take advantage of our low-season offer for caravans and tents.   This is some of the footage from the race.
